The holidays have been especially hard for me the past two years. Even rather unassuming holidays such as Memorial Day have apparently proven difficult for me. Today I just woke up pissy and bitter about spending the long weekend without big plans with family and friends.
But, I'm powering through it with yarn. A mountain of yarn. Never underestimate the power of yarn and an entire weekend of nothing to do but crochet. Cathartic.
So, I went out today in the rain and searched every Michael's and Joann's in the greater Nashville Metropolitan area for all the Lion's Brand Thick & Quick in oatmeal shade I could put my paws on. I came up with 15 skeins of oatmeal and couldn't turn away from 3 skeins of barley that were just scrumptious. I'm using the oatmeal to make an afghan and I'm using the barley to make a hat and scarf. And, it will not only keep me busy through the holiday weekend, but into the coming weeks too.
Although, I'm already 1/5th of the way through the afghan. I may need a lot more freaking yarn to get through life in general....
So, what do you do to power through tough times? What do you do to keep yourself busy when you're restless? Hopefully, you don't suffer from a yarn addiction like me. I learned this weekend that it's rather expensive.
Here's my mountain, soon to be afghan....
Update! As of 11:30pm, here's the result - it's 7 feet long and so far 15 inches wide.
