After a bit of shipping drama, my wonderful Christmas care package arrived yesterday courtesy of my lovely and talented cousin Lisa!
Lisa, thank you thank you thank you!
So, I wanted to showcase the grand opening and all the awesome gifts she sent. Here goes:
The box! I love all the Post-it® notes!

Goodwill Hunting
De-Clutter 2012 is going well so far. I trashed or Goodwilled way more than 7 items this week. Probably closer to about 20. It felt really good to drop them off. And, I didn't bring anything new into the house this week. Great first steps so far.
Geez. Well, I thought I'd have something more interesting to report, but at the moment, I can't think of a single thing. So, here are some pictures - not that I've really been doing anything with photography.
Got my calendars out.
My fridge got empty... except for ketchup.
My fridge is stocked.

De-Clutter 2012 - Day 1
*looks around*
Anyone still here?
Well, if you are, I'm sorry for the blog absence. There's no big reason for it. It just sort of happened.
Now, like most people on this day, I'm starting a new project. I'm calling it De-Clutter 2012.
Each day this year, I'm going to get rid of at least one thing in my house. I will either toss it in the trash, recycle it or give it to Goodwill (I'm putting a Goodwill bin by the back door). Also, if I bring any non-perishable items into the house, I have to get rid of something then as well. Since I might not have time to scout around the house each day, I'm going to give myself slack and allow myself catch up days on the weekend. During the week, I'll just keep a tally of how many items need to go. Of course, if I get ambitious, I'm allowed to toss out more than one thing, but that doesn't count for future days. So, I can't cheat by throwing out 365 things today. The project has to last all year.
Today, Day 1, I got rid of a bunch of stupid hair clips - those 80s claw clips from when I had long hair. I'm already eyeballing about 10 other things that are going to go by the end of the day. This is going to be really fun.
Why am I doing this? The obvious answer is that my house is cluttered. But the May 2012 flood really made me realize how bad it was. During the week after the flood when I packed up the entire house, I tossed hundreds of things that weren't even ruined by the flood. It was just crap I wanted to get rid of, stuff wouldn't ever use again. After doing that, I thought I'd have so much more space when I moved back in.
No.
Surprisingly, the only place I have a slight amount of extra space now is in the kitchen. That's only because I chose not to replace a ton of baking pans and sauce pans and such and I sent a ton of plastic containers to Goodwill. Other than that, my closets are still packed. There are still knickknacks all over the damn place: candle holders, ceramic birds, wood elephants, flower vases... all collecting dust. Sure, they all look cute and I've arranged them in a feng shui way, but 90% of them don't have any sentimental value and the condo has just really reached its maximum limit of cheap decor (pronounced "day-co-wer" for those of you at home reading this aloud.).
So, for the new year, are you starting any new projects or do you have any resolutions you'll be working on? Do tell!
Despite the Mayan warnings of the world ending, 2012 has to be a better effing year than 2010 and 2011. If not, I'm going to write a sternly worded complaint letter to the man or woman upstairs. Seriously, good things need to happen this year. And for once, I actually have medium to high hopes that they will.
Happy new year to you!
P.S. I haven't been taking many photos, but here's one from today.

Instacrap
Things have been absolutely nuts with chaotic drama around here. And, it's all stuff I can't really write about publicly. I haven't been doing much with photography lately, just enough to satisfy my 365 project. Instead, I've been reading cheesy historical time travel romance novels. A lot of them.
I've also wandered over to the dark side and taken several iPhone pictures and processed them though Instagram. I'm really anti-Instagram, not because I don't like it, but because there are so many people who overuse it to compensate for the fact that they don't know how to use a real camera, even though they have a really expensive DSLR. I know - pretty irrational of me. Whatever.
Well, I'd better get back to Thor and his mighty throbbing hammer. Here are a few of those Instagram shots. Oh, and if you're on Instagram, friend me so I can also follow your stuff. I'm greystgirl.
Tiny Superman hangs from the security system motion detector, keeping watch over bar patrons.
My one and only Christmas decoration was hung with care.
Yesterday, my friend and I celebrated the 1 year anniversary of the discovery of the Bellevue Beaver by having drinks in his honor.
And, we decided we will probably still be having drinks at this pub 40 years from now. This will be us.

It's About Time
Good lord. I've completely neglected my writing for two weeks now. Sadly, I'm not sure I've much to report. I'm back at work. I'm still working on feeling better, although the medications have definitely given me a boost.
While I'm still working on my memoir project, I've neglected it a bit as well. I've been mulling over new entries in my head, but have yet to write anything of substance down. I'm hoping to change that this weekend.
So, what have I been doing with all my free time? Oy vey. I've been reading up a storm. Sometimes, I just get bitten by the bug and end up reading a book a day for several weeks. Amazon is loving me right now. I guess I could chalk up the reading to research and inspiration for my writing, but honestly, I'm just procrastinating and enjoying getting caught up in other worlds.
As for photography, I'm still taking at least a picture a day. Here are a few from the past two weeks. Although as you can see, there's not a lot to photograph except for dead leaves now that the wind blew Autumn away.
I hope you all had a wonderful and safely traveled Thanksgiving holiday!
It's been raining... a lot.
My favorite shoes are now in quarantine because I stepped in dog poo.
Dead leaves.
Dead leaves and more rain.
I had a lovely, sunny Thanksgiving day at Monell's in Germantown.
And, was welcomed home by this awesome owl - grainy because it was getting really dark, which lately seems like 2pm.
